FOLLOWING NEWS THAT Calverton Miners Welfare FC will play in next season’s UEFA Champion’s League, the club has just worked out this could be really expensive.
‘In the Nottingham Senior League, we usually get to play away matches at places like Attenborough and Cotgrave,’ said club spokesperson Stevie Stokes of Flatts Lane, Calverton.
‘But it’s not all glamour. Now we need to raise loads of money to get to our Champions League away matches, possibly in dead horrible places like Salzburg and Barcelona.’
The club doesn’t want any lack of means to prevent it from competing in arguably the greatest club tournament in the world and has been thinking creatively about how to generate funds.
‘We’re proud to represent our country in the Champions League,’ said Stevie, ‘and we don’t want to let anyone down.’
Accordingly, the club is hosting a bingo night and raffle next Saturday, with Janice doing chip cobs and Deano running karaoke and slidies.
